Paul Mengert Named Chairman of Airport Authority
“Piedmont Triad International Airport serves two primary
business purposes, both of which make significant contributions to communities
in the heart of North Carolina,” points out Paul Mengert, newly named Chairman
of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Board of Directors. After serving as
member of the board since 2012 most recently as Treasurer, Mengert was named
Chairman in April 2020. Also noteworthy
is that Mengert is an experienced pilot who holds a commercial certificate.
Mengert, in addition, is a leading Carolinas’ businessman
who brings that expertise to the board as well. He is the founder and CEO of
Association Management Group (AMG), a professional community association
management company that serves more than 30,000 property owners through its
five offices in the Carolinas. Founded in 1985, AMG works with client community
and homeowner associations to assist with the operations and maintenance of
communities with a few dozen homes to large-scale developments with thousands
of homes and businesses.
Piedmont Triad International Airport’s passenger experience
is the business purpose most people recognize, Mengert points out. Passengers
are served by Allegiant, American, Delta, Spirit and United airlines for access
to both domestic and international travel in a state-of-the-art facility close
to home.
The airport’s second business purpose offers significant
economic opportunities for surrounding communities. According to Mengert,
Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) contributes $6 billion annually to
the local economy while also generating more than 25,500 jobs. Importantly, the
airport is a leader in the maintenance, report and overhaul sector (MRO) and is
headquarters to HAECO, a world MRO leader.
Aerospace manufacturing is another major PTI employer as the world
headquarters for Honda Aircraft Company. Plus, PTI has another 800 acres of
property ready for development.
“Economic development is an ongoing goal of the airport
authority,” says Paul Mengert, Chairman of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority
Board of Directors. “We are excited to be moving forward with construction of a
taxiway to connect the main portion of the airfield with 800 ready-to-develop
land. The future of local aerospace is here in central North Carolina, and I
look forward to working with the other members of the airport authority and our
community to bring these plans to completion,” he adds.
